Knee pain is one of the most common pain complaints, and can usually be treated with physical therapy. Physical therapy includes hands-on treatment to loosen muscles and joints, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises. Your therapist will also use modalities such as electrical stimulation, cold or heat packs and ultrasound, as well as teach you to move properly. Treating knee pain and injuries with physical therapy is a good place to start. If stronger methods, such as surgery, are needed, your physical therapist will be able to tell you.
