LSVT Big & Loud
LSVT BIG Program for Parkinson’s
The LSVT BIG Program for Parkinson’s Program was developed specifically to address the unique movement problems facing people with Parkinson’s disease. Specifically, it helps increase the range of limb and body movement, such as improving trunk rotation and gait. This means that those who participate can see improved speed in their upper and lower limbs, better balance, and a higher quality of life. Also, many are able to maintain these improvements when faced with a difficult task after completing the program.
Although the program is intensive, it is fun for both the patients and therapists! It consists of 7 standard exercises, 5 functional tasks unique to the patients own goals, and a hierarchal task specific to that patient’s needs. Hierarchy tasks are everyday tasks that the patient picks. Things they want to be able to do, such as golfing, gardening, or going to a restaurant. The program requires 4 sessions a week for 4 weeks (16 sessions in a month), and includes daily homework or exercise.
