Manual therapy is when therapists use their hands to treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. It uses a range of methods to help improve joint movement. It also helps the movement and function of muscles, nerves, and tissues.
- Joint and soft tissue mobilization
- Passive range of motion
- Myofascial and trigger point release
We believe that the power of human touch aids healing. That’s why manual therapy is a key part of all our treatment plans. And, we spend as much as 30% of each session using manual methods in order to restore movement to joints and reduce muscle tension.
Physical therapists who use manual therapy are not the same as massage therapists, chiropractors, or other hands on therapists. We use manual methods as part of a total treatment plan. We create a custom plan that is based on your exact needs, and includes not just manual methods, but exercise and modalities.
At Landmark, we not only perform a thorough evaluation on your first visit, but we track your progress throughout treatment. This allows us to change your program as you respond to treatment. The combined exercises and manual methods, along with modalities such as ice, ultrasound and electronic stimulation, has been proven to be the most successful type of therapy.
