Physical Therapy After
Physical Therapy after a Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery has been around since the 1960’s, and is one of the most frequent orthopedic surgeries today. Over time, they have improved so that patients experience less pain and enjoy more complete recoveries than in years past. A successful hip replacement surgery can restore quality of life that was lost due to pain. However, the surgery (no matter how modern) is only half of your journey. Physical therapy is a crucial piece of your complete recovery.
After a hip replacement, physical therapy will show you how to get in and out of bed, into the car, and use stairs. Your therapist will give you exercises to improve balance and reduce your risk of falls. They will also design a custom rehab program to help you work towards your specific goals, so that you regain motion and strength. At each visit, your therapist will observe the progress you make and adjust your treatment plan. The goal is to see you doing and feeling better each and every visit, so you can return to your favorite activities.
The final part of your recovery is you. Your commitment to see it through can be the difference between simply recovering, and enjoying a complete recovery.
